Before I was a teacher, I was an @americorps member with Start The Adventure In Reading (STAIR) in New Orleans. I worked with all the site directors and many kids and parents. My first teaching job was at #DrewElementary. I was an advocate for #STAIR and we eventually had the program work with the 2nd/3rd graders. A quiet force by the name of Bonnie Morel was a cheerful child advocate who shared a wild passion for reading. When kids had to walk down the street, Bonnie would meet the kids with joy and her explosive passion and even a rainy day wouldn’t mess Bonnie over. She would have caravans of umbrellas to greet the kids. I have never seen such a ball of energy in such a small person with so many years of experience. My heart is sad that we have lost such a wonderful person, but know that her joyous rays are shining down on us - even on a rainy day.
My heart is sad but know of all the lives she touched as a STAIR site director. Her zeal and passion for the children - I will always remember. #RIPBonnie #childadvocate #lifelongReader
